We’re Hiring!

Driver Position Transporting Youth 

 Urban Stable is currently looking for a part-time seasonal driver, with experience working with and transporting youth, to join our dedicated and dynamic team. We are looking for a passionate, energetic, reliable, and experienced driver to provide student transportation to and from the program location using the program vehicle during program times (Oct.-Dec. and Feb.-June). 

Urban Stable, founded in 2001, is a registered charity, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and is an accredited Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) centre. Urban Stable empowers youth to overcome challenges and positively engage in their education and community through hands-on learning experiences with horses. We partner with local school divisions and youth-serving organizations to provide equine experiential learning and riding programs to youth, assisting them to develop vital life skills such as confidence, self-esteem, and self-awareness. Our programs are proven to increase student attendance and engagement at school and in their community.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Transport students at scheduled times to their Urban Stable class and back to school in Urban Stable vehicle 
  • Record day-to-day vehicle milage, perform regular vehicle maintenance tasks such as refueling, washing, and garbage removal at the end of a day/shift as needed
  • Provide day-to-day feedback and liaise with Key Supervisorregarding student pickups e.g., if student is absent from school or sick 
  • Report to Key Supervisor
  • Other duties as required

Key Requirements: 

  • Must have experience working with youth
  • Experience driving youth an asset
  • Comfortable driving for durations up to 1hr – 1.5hrs with pick up and drop off on route
  • Must have clean driver’s licence with positive points on driver safety rating scale and no driving infringements e.g., speeding tickets, traffic offenses etc. 
  • Must be experienced driver e.g., experience driving on gravel, highway driving and in rain and snow
  • Must follow all federal, provincial and city driving codes and laws
  • Must have held full driver’s licence and have experience driving for at least 5 years
  • Need to have weekday daytime availability 
  • Need to be available Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday for 5-hour shift
  • Availability to pick up extra driving shifts an asset
  • Need to show dedication and commitment to the position
  • Must sign all Urban Stable waivers and agree to abide by all Urban Stable policies 
  • Drivers Abstract, Criminal Record Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check required

You will have the opportunity to work with a great team that is passionate about providing life-changing programs for youth-at-risk. Your approachable and encouraging character, along with your experienced driving and youth leadership skills will help more youth achieve personal success and build vital life skills like confidence and independence that transfer back to their classroom, family, and community.   

Three-month probationary period in effect. 
Driver will have routine performance evaluations with Key Supervisor.   
Training and mentoring will be provided to all approved candidates.

Volunteer With Us!

Urban Stable empowers youth to overcome challenges and positively engage in their education and community through hands-on learning experiences with horses.

Horse Handler Volunteers

Be part of a fun, positive environment working with youth and horses helping youth unbridle their potential. We are looking for adult volunteer horse handlers, who have horse experience, to join our team leading students on their horses as they learn to ride. 

Horse Handler Requirements:

  • Horse experience required
  • Available during the day on a weekday (Tues., Wed. or Thurs.) starting October 2024
  • Able to transport self to program (located 15 minutes North of perimeter near Stonewall, MB)
  • Able to attend Orientation on Sept. 9, 10:30am-11:30am and Training Sept. 18 and Sept. 26
  • Volunteer hours: 2 hour class per week, for 10 weeks Oct.-Dec. & 14 weeks Feb.-June

We are a Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) accredited centre and provide full training and support to all volunteers from advanced beginners to experienced. To learn more about this opportunity or to apply contact info@urbanstable.ca

Program Volunteer Photographer

We are seeking 2-3 Volunteer Photographers to join our team to use their creative skills to capture the “magic” and celebrate our student success stories during program and at fundraising events. 

Volunteer Photographer Requirements:

  • Experience taking, editing, sharing and uploading photos preferred
  • Available during the day on a weekday (Tues., Wed. or Thurs.) starting October 2024 and occasional weekend/evening for fundraising events
  • Able to transport self to program location (located 15 minutes North of perimeter near Stonewall, MB)
  • Able to attend Orientation on Sept. 9, 10:30am – 11:30am
  • Volunteer hours: 1.5-2 hour sessions during program times to capture images in all classes over the course of the year (times can be flexible). Plus 2-4 hours during fundraising events as needed

Become an Urban Stable Board Member

Do you want to make a difference for youth facing challenges in your community? Are you interested in being part of a unique organization delivering equine facilitated learning programs to youth, benefiting their social and emotional growth?  

Urban Stable serves youth in our community from grades 5-12 who are facing obstacles, adversity, and struggling at school.

We provide five unique Equine Facilitated Learning Programs (school program, alumni program, summer program, Leaders in Training program, and unmounted programs), that help facilitate social and emotional wellbeing for our students and encourage them to develop new skills and relationships they can use at school and at home.

We currently partner with many schools across several School Divisions and community organizations. Over the past 20+ years Urban Stable has served the needs of 750+ youth and is well positioned for growth.

We like to stagger our board member terms and are currently seeking 2-3 people to join our dynamic volunteer Board of Directors with experience in ONE or more of the following areas:

  • Human Resources and Policies
  • Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Accounting: CA/CPA designation
  • Fundraising – individual donations, major gifts, grant writing
  • Event planning and sponsorship
  • Website design and management
  • IT Governance
  • Education and / or social work

As a member of our board, you will have opportunities to:

  • Be part of a dedicated and passionate team of board members, volunteers and staff working together to make a difference for youth in our community
  • Use your skills to contribute to decision making, governance, strategic planning, marketing, financial management, etc.
  • Broaden your professional and personal networks
  • Learn more about equine assisted learning and its benefits

Type of Position:  Volunteer
Requirement:  4-6 hours/month with majority of Board and committee meetings held virtually
Duration:  Board members are elected for a two-year team (with opportunity to renew for an additional term)
Experience: Previous board experience desired but not necessary. No horse experience needed.
