Congrats to 2023 MHC Award Winners!

Pictures of MHC award winners

We are celebrating two Manitoba Horse Council (MHC) 2023 Awards!

Congratulations to our horse May for winning 2023 MHC Non-Sport Horse of the Year! Some of May’s students wrote in to support her nomination, letting everyone know what a difference May makes to so many. Here is one of the student nominations for May:

  1. My favourite thing about May is her hair, her speed, and she is so calm.
  2. May has taught me that she needs to move and that she loves being groomed.
  3. One way I relate to May is that we both need to move a lot, more than a lot of people.
  4. When I spend time with May I feel calm, happy, focused, very good, excited, and a strong bond.

You can learn more about our very own a-MAY-zing May here

Also a huge congratulations to Stonehurst Stable, our program home, for winning 2023 MHC Equine Facility of the Year! Such a well deserved honour. Congratulations to Tristan Caswell, facility owner, and to the whole Stonehurst family. We are so glad to have such a safe and tranquil home to host our programs.

Student Celebrations

Students riding horses

Our School Program wrapped up for the year with our students celebrating their accomplishments with friends and family on their last day of class – Celebration Day!

Celebration Days are a highlight of the year for students, students’ friends, family and schools, and Urban Stable staff and volunteers. On Celebration Day the students invite a few guests to come see all they have been working on at Urban Stable.

It is amazing to watch the students proudly show off their horsemanship, riding, leadership, teamwork, and communication skills with their horses and teammates.

On their Celebration Day, students showcased a special musical ride they worked hard on over the last number of weeks to learn. As a team, students picked patterns to ride as a group, then put it together with music, making their own personal musical ride. Students’ guests got a real treat in watching their own unique show!

Recognizing the hard work each student has put in to overcome challenges, and seeing the payoff in the development of new life skills like patience, confidence, self-esteem, awareness, and self-regulation, highlighted even more on Celebration Day, is the best!

Congratulations Students!

Summer Program 2024

Youth and horse

We are chomping at the bit to announce we are relaunching our Summer Program in July for two 3-day sessions!

Registration is open for children ages 8 years+ who love animals and enjoy spending time in nature.

This unmounted Horse Powered Reading and horsemanship program is designed to ignite a renewed interest and passion for literacy and to help participants learn essential life skills like teamwork, leadership, and communication.

Along the way participants develop confidence and have a lot of fun. All through hands-on learning experiences with horses!

Thank you to The Winnipeg Foundation for supporting professional development of the Urban Stable staff to facilitate the Horse Powered Reading curriculum for this program.
