Urban Stable currently provides Equine Facilitated Learning Programs to youth in grades 5-12 through 4 unique programs. Equine Facilitated Learning is an experiential learning approach that promotes the development of life skills for educational, professional and personal goals through equine activities.
Urban Stable is an accredited Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) centre and follows the high standards and safety guidelines provided by them.
Our School Program, which runs during the academic school day throughout the year, has served hundreds of youth in partnership with local schools. At risk students from grades 5-8 are referred by their partnering school contact to participate in the program.
The Alumni Leadership Program was developed in 2015 and is for youth grades 9-12 that have previously participated in the Urban Stable School Program and have shown a continuing passion for the program and the horses. The program also runs during the academic school year but is outside of school hours.
The Leaders in Training Program was developed in 2011 and is open to students, grades 10-12 that have participated in the School Program, that are passionate about it and show strong leadership qualities. The students volunteer as horse handlers in the School Program, offered in partnership with the careers counsellor of the High School Careers Credit Program.
The Urban Stable Summer Program was developed in 2015, partnering with local community organizations to provide our Equine Facilitated Learning Program during July and August for youth from underprivileged families and/or who are at risk.
