Urban Stable currently provides Equine Experiential Learning Programs to youth in grades 5-12 through six unique programs. Equine Facilitated Learning is an experiential learning approach that promotes the development of critical social-emotional life skills for educational, professional and personal goals through hands-on learning activities with horses. Two of our programs offer accessible adapted unmounted activities for youth and young adults with disabilities.
Leadership Development and Team Building sessions are also provided to teams, groups, companies and corporations and open to all ages. We will teach you how to work with and effectively communicate with the horses, who in turn will create life changing experiences for your team members to learn and grow.
Urban Stable is an accredited Canadian Therapeutic Riding Association (CanTRA) centre and follows the high standards and safety guidelines provided by them.
Our School Program, which runs during the day throughout the academic school year, has served hundreds of youth in partnership with local schools. Students, from grades 5-8, are referred by their partnering school contact to participate in the program to unbridle their potential.
The Alumni Leadership Program was developed in 2015 for youth, grades 9-12, who have previously participated in the School Program and show a passion for the program and horses. The program runs from October to June on the weekend for the students to advance their horsemanship skills and become ambassadors for Urban Stable.
The Leaders in Training Program was developed in 2011 and is open to students, grades 10-12, that have participated in the School Program and show strong leadership qualities. The Leaders in Training volunteer as horse handlers in the School Program assisting the younger students. In partnership with their school workplace experience supervisor credits can be arranged.
The Urban Stable Summer Program was developed in 2015, partnering with local youth-serving community organizations to provide our unmounted hands-on learning program with horses during July and August for under-served youth and families in the community.
Urban Stable provides experiential team building and leadership development workshops incorporating unmounted hands-on activities with the horses designed to help your team develop skills and awareness they can apply at work. Your team will gain strategic, group and individual benefits that are immediate as well as long-lasting from participating in one of our team building sessions.
The Horse Connection Program is an accessible unmounted program, developed in 2022, for youth and young adults with disabilities to experience the transformative power of the horse-human connection. Hands-on horse activities and experiences are customized to the student’s abilities, needs, style and pace of learning (we will not be riding).
Ever wanted to learn more about horses, Explore Horses is the program for you. Immerse yourself in nature and explore the colourful world of horses in our 5-week unmounted program (we will not be riding). Students are given time to pause and reflect on what they are learning from the horses and their teammate(s).
